Local Authorities Challenge Decision on Largest Waste Management Center in Moldova

The town halls of Puhăceni and Șerpeni, along with the Anenii Noi County Council, have requested a review of the decision to locate the largest waste management center in Moldova. The appeal was sent to the Ministry of Environment, asking them to reassess the decision. The mayor of Puhăceni, Veaceslav Plămădeală, stated that the population is not against modernization but rather against 'the way this decision was made'. The official stated that the chosen site is near water sources, and a hydrogeological study has not been conducted to determine if groundwater will be affected. The Ministry of Environment responded that this is not about a 'dump', but a modern regional center according to EU standards. They stated that an environmental impact assessment is still ongoing, and studies and public consultations should take place before a final decision.
