Malaysia's National Bank has issued a warning about scammers using 'incoming call display spoofing' technology to disguise phone numbers as those of government departments or official bodies. The scammers then claim the recipient is involved in debt, fines, or criminal investigations and ask for personal information or money transfers. The bank warns that even if the incoming call display shows an official number, it does not guarantee the caller's identity is genuine. Government agencies do not ask for bank verification codes via phone calls or demand money transfers to 'safe accounts'. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up immediately and verify through official channels.
