Iguazu National Park Temporarily Closes Devil's Throat Access Due to River Flooding

The Iguazu National Park will suspend access to the Devil's Throat from August due to the river's rise, associated with intense rains in southern Brazil and weather projections anticipating the El Niño phenomenon. The National Parks Administration has decided to temporarily close the Devil's Throat circuit starting August 3rd, in order to protect infrastructure and ensure visitor safety. The concessionaire company Iguazu Argentina S.A. has presented a specific protocol to dismantle and protect the circuit's walkways, which will require at least 40 days of work. The rise in water levels is not an isolated event, with the Iguazu River's flow reaching nearly 10 million liters per second, seven times higher than the usual average. The climate situation is marked by the imminent arrival of El Niño, which could bring much more intense rains than usual, with a risk of flooding in vast regions.
