Cuba Expands Private Sector Role in Economy

Cuba has announced significant economic changes, opening up sectors like gas stations, pharmacies, and social services to private capital. The government has removed restrictions on 46 activities and modified another 35, allowing more non-state participation in manufacturing, energy, transportation, trade, health, and education. This marks a shift away from state-socialist doctrine and central planning, with over 15,000 private small and medium-sized businesses now operating on the island.
