Archaeological Discovery: Fortified Site Identified at Gura Bâcului

A significant archaeological discovery has been made on the banks of the Nistru River. A fortified site of substantial size has been identified at Gura Bâcului, near the town of Gura Bâcului, Moldova. The discovery was made during excavations in a tumular necropolis from the second iron age by the National Archaeological Agency. The site is believed to have been occupied mainly during the IX-X centuries, the early medieval period. This discovery complements the archaeological map of the Nistru River's lower micro-region and provides new insights into the habitat and fortification systems of the early Middle Ages.
