India Mourns Death of Former Army Chief General Vishwa Nath Sharma

India is mourning the loss of General Vishwa Nath Sharma, a distinguished soldier and former Chief of the Army Staff. The 96-year-old veteran, who served from 1988 to 1990, played a pivotal role during the 1987 military stand-off with China. He was also the first officer commissioned after Independence to lead the Army. Sharma's tenure saw the Army engaged in multiple internal and external security challenges. He was known as a soldier-scholar who led the Army at a critical juncture. The Indian Army paid its final tribute to Sharma with full military honours.
