Amazon Receives $600 Million in Tariff Refunds, Will Return Some to Customers

Amazon's CFO, Brian Olsavsky, announced the refunds during a conference call, stating that a portion will be returned to customers under specific circumstances. The company preemptively bought inventory to avoid tariff costs and absorbed most of the increased costs rather than passing them on to customers. Amazon will automatically issue refunds to affected customers when it can trace specific import charges passed onto them. The refunds stem from a February Supreme Court ruling striking down broad tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977.
