Samsung Warns: Memory Shortage to Worsen Through 2027

Samsung, a leading memory chip manufacturer, has warned that the ongoing global shortage of computer memory is expected to worsen significantly in 2027 and last until at least 2028. The increased demand, primarily driven by the push for more AI data centers that need tons of RAM and GPUs, has largely gone unmet this year. Existing orders are being carried over into next year, which is likely to exacerbate the already tense situation. As a result, prices could soar even higher, if not remain at a similarly high level. The shortage is expected to continue all the way through 2026 and well into 2027, with some predictions extending until 2028. Samsung is trying to avoid traditional boom-and-bust cycles by securing long-term contracts with customers and increasing production predictability.
