Mother of Noelia Seeks UN Probe into Spain's Protection of Daughter Before Euthanasia

The mother of Noelia Castillo, who underwent euthanasia in Barcelona last March, has filed a complaint with the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women. She asks the UN to investigate if Spain adequately protected her daughter, who had serious mental disorders, disability, and a history of sexual violence, before authorizing her euthanasia. The mother's foundation, Abogados Cristianos, alleges that Spain failed in its duty to protect Noelia and questions the application of the euthanasia law. The complaint highlights institutional omissions such as lack of effective psychiatric care, insufficient protection, economic precariousness, and the absence of real alternatives oriented towards life.
