Constitutional Court Upholds Release of Vladimir Cerrón

The Constitutional Court of Peru has upheld the release of Vladimir Cerrón, leader of Perú Libre, from preventive detention in the case against him for criminal organization and money laundering. The court declared the habeas corpus petition presented by Cerrón's defense well-founded and ordered the nullity of the resolutions that dismissed his request for a variation of preventive detention to appearance, as well as the preventive detention measure itself. The Sixth National Pre-trial Investigation Court initially considered the TC's decision 'materially unenforceable' but later complied with the ruling. Cerrón's preventive imprisonment was replaced with an appearance with restrictions, requiring him to comply with certain rules of conduct and attend judicial citations.
