Schumer Proposes Anti-Corruption Agency to Target Trump

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) introduced legislation to create a new federal agency, the Anti-Corruption Bureau, aimed at investigating alleged corruption involving President Trump and future administrations. The bill, co-sponsored by Sens. Andy Kim, Alex Padilla, and Jeff Merkley, would empower the bureau to investigate Trump's crypto profits and foreign-tied crypto fund stakes, among other alleged abuses. It would also allow citizens and state attorneys general to file lawsuits to recover stolen public money. The bureau would replace the Office of Government Ethics, Federal Election Commission, and Office of Special Counsel, and would have subpoena power and a self-sustaining funding source.
