Major Unions Urge U.S. to Reconsider Tariffs on Canada

Leaders of two major international unions, United Steelworkers and International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, have written to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, urging him to reconsider the proposed 50% tariffs on Canadian goods set to take effect on Aug. 19. The union leaders, representing over 1.45 million workers, argue that these tariffs could drive a deeper wedge between the U.S. and Canada, and undermine economic and national security. They call for renewed engagement and negotiations to stabilize the U.S.-Canada trade relationship.
