Asian Confederation Joins UEFA, CONCACAF in Opposing FIFA's World Cup Sell-Off Plan

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has joined UEFA and CONCACAF in expressing serious concerns and opposition to FIFA's proposal to sell stakes in its competitions, including the World Cup, to private investors. This move increases the likelihood of FIFA's plan failing to secure the necessary votes for approval. The AFC, UEFA, and CONCACAF together hold a majority of FIFA's member associations, with 46, 55, and 35 votes respectively, out of a total of 211. The AFC criticized FIFA's decision-making process, stating that important federations and football bodies had been overlooked. FIFA President Gianni Infantino's plan to raise over $4 billion from external investors through the planned subsidiary FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) has faced strong resistance since its announcement.
