Nearly half of the foreign citizens who applied for asylum in Russia over nine months this year were Ukrainians. According to Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs data reviewed by TASS, Ukrainians made up approximately 54% of the total 3,802 applications received, with 2,056 Ukrainians seeking asylum. This is a significant decrease of 471 applications compared to the same period in 2025. Syrians were the second-largest group with 641 applications, followed by Afghans with 190. Asylum in Russia allows legal residence, work without a separate permit, and access to medical assistance.
