Elderly Archaeologist Shot During Robbery in Rio's Leblon Neighborhood

Tania Andrade de Lima, an 81-year-old archaeologist, was shot during an attempted robbery in Rio de Janeiro's Leblon neighborhood. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, March 15, as she was leaving a bank on Rua General Venâncio Flores. Security camera footage shows the victim being approached by a criminal, who knocked her down, assaulted her, and shot her before taking her bag. Tania was hit by three shots, two of which grazed her hand and arm, while the third hit the back of her neck. She was rescued and taken to Hospital Municipal Miguel Couto. The robber escaped on a motorcycle with an accomplice. The incident has drawn attention due to the victim's prominent role in the discovery of the Valongo Dock.
