Moscow's Electronic Voting System Checks for VPN Usage

Moscow's electronic voting system (EVD) has been found to check if voters have VPNs enabled. Programmer Petr Zhizhin discovered that the voting website elec.mos.ru forces the voter's browser to load an image from YouTube before entering. Since YouTube is blocked in Russia, if the image loads, it indicates the voter has a VPN. The browser then sends this result to the voting server, allowing the operator to know if a voter is using a VPN and their identity. This check does not prevent voting.
