Low Water Levels on the Rhine Threaten Shipping and Economy

Low water levels on the Rhine are causing significant issues for shipping and industry, with ships only able to carry a fifth of their usual cargo. This is having a substantial impact on the economy, with industry relying on the supply of raw materials and intermediate products transported by river. The Chambers of Industry and Commerce (IHK) of North Rhine-Westphalia warn that this could wipe out Germany's expected economic growth for the year. The low water levels are also affecting passenger shipping, boat rental, and even exposing old ammunition. The state government is calling on the federal government to take necessary measures to address this issue.
