Underwater Solar Cells Successfully Tested at 10 Meters Depth

Researchers from Yunnan University in China have demonstrated that solar cells can function effectively at 10 meters below sea level, generating enough energy to power underwater devices. The study, published in Joule, shows that perovskite solar cells with wide band gaps can absorb blue to orange light and retain efficiency even after prolonged exposure to underwater conditions. The team integrated these cells with underwater robots and tested them in the South China Sea, achieving exceptional long-term operational stability.
