Alejandro Betancourt, a Venezuelan businessman and head of North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP), assisted the U.S. in intercepting oil tankers despite American sanctions during Nicolás Maduro's presidency, according to The Washington Post. Betancourt's help was deemed crucial by some officials, with his company becoming a basis for U.S. economic expansion in Venezuela. After Maduro's capture, Betancourt convinced acting president Delcy Rodríguez to cooperate with the U.S., ensuring her personal safety and securing the cancellation of his extradition request from Britain for money laundering charges.
