German Designer's Hawaiian Shirt Fools AI Facial Recognition

Berlin-based designer and digital artist Simon Weckert has created a Hawaiian shirt called 'Digital Camouflage' that makes the wearer appear invisible to AI-powered facial recognition systems. The shirt's vibrant pattern of spots and colors disrupts the key features that AI uses to identify a person, such as silhouette, body proportions, and continuous contours. Weckert developed the pattern using another AI through a process of trial and error. This isn't his first project involving AI; in 2020, he caused a fake traffic jam on Google Maps using a cart filled with smartphones.
