Pensioners Scammed Out of Millions by Phone and Courier Fraud

In recent incidents, elderly pensioners across Russia have been targeted and defrauded of large sums of money by phone scammers working with couriers. In Moscow, a 78-year-old woman lost over 17.2 million rubles after being tricked into 'declaring' her savings following a fake water meter check. Similarly, a 70-year-old pensioner in St. Petersburg was scammed out of 600,000 rubles by a fraudster posing as a younger individual. Another case involved a 17-year-old courier stealing 1.3 million rubles from pensioners in Vladimir. These scams often exploit the elderly's fear for their loved ones or use deceitful tactics to gain access to their savings.
