Strike Called at Melilla Juvenile Detention Center Due to Staff Shortages and Poor Conditions

The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) has called for a strike at the La Purísima juvenile detention center in Melilla from September 3-6 due to serious issues including lack of staff, job insecurity, excessive workload, and poor safety and health conditions. The strike coincides with the city's patron saint festivities. The union has been denouncing these issues for years and has accused the management company, Tragsatec, of not complying with technical specifications and not applying the V State Reform Agreement, leaving staff owed significant amounts. The center is currently overcrowded, with a capacity for 80 but accommodating over 300 minors with a staff of barely 130. The strike comes after failed meetings with regional government officials.
