Supreme Court Reduces Mandatory Legal Practice to One Year for Entry-Level Judicial Exam

The Supreme Court has reduced the mandatory legal practice requirement for law graduates seeking to appear in entry-level judicial service examinations from three years to one year. The court said that candidates appearing in judicial exams notified between May 25, 2025 and March 31, 2027 are eligible regardless of prior experience. However, selected candidates will have to undergo training at the judicial academy and a further one year clerkship. The court held that the earlier three-year practice rule created hardship for young lawyers and law graduates.
