Fire Devastates Historic Lauterbach, Five Houses Uninhabitable

A major fire broke out in the historic old town of Lauterbach, Hesse, Germany, causing extensive damage and making five timber-framed houses uninhabitable. The fire started in a restaurant at the market square and quickly spread to neighboring buildings. Around 250 firefighters were involved in controlling the blaze. Five people were injured by smoke gases, including two emergency services personnel and three residents. The damage is estimated at least five million euros. Residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to strong smoke development, and road users were asked to bypass the area. The town, which has around 14,000 inhabitants, is located on the German Timber-Frame Road.
