São Paulo City Hall has published new rules for electric bicycles (e-bikes) and personal mobility devices (PMDs). The maximum speed limit for these vehicles on bike lanes is now 20 km/h, down from the previous 32 km/h. In bike lanes shared with pedestrians, the speed limit is 6 km/h. E-bikes are prohibited on sidewalks, central medians, and pedestrian streets. On roads without bike lanes, e-bikes must use the edge of the lane and follow speed limits. Scooters have a maximum speed of 20 km/h on roads with a speed limit of up to 40 km/h. The new rules will be enforced after a transition period ending on August 28.
