Amputee Crisis in Gaza Strip

The number of amputees in the Gaza Strip has risen to around 8,000 people, including 25% children and 12.5% women, due to the ongoing conflict. The Hamad Rehabilitation and Prosthetics Hospital has only been able to fit 135 prosthetic limbs using pre-war stock, as no raw materials for producing prosthetic limbs have entered the Strip since the start of the war. Around 600 patients have completed rehabilitation and are ready for fitting, but are waiting for the necessary materials to complete their treatment. The needs of thousands of injured people exceed the capacity of the centers in Gaza, and meeting their needs could take years even with the opening of crossings, unless specialized centers are supported and the necessary materials and personnel are provided.
