Ceuta Residents Protest Migration Crisis, Demand Action

Thousands of Ceuta residents took to the streets in a massive demonstration, filling Constitution Square, to demand a response to the grave situation facing the city after the massive influx of migrants on July 30. The protest, organized by the main religious communities, called for an immediate, decisive, and proportionate response from the Spanish Government, European institutions, and public administrations to migratory pressure, humanitarian attention needs, and security difficulties. Citizens, united beyond their differences, chanted slogans such as 'Enough is enough', 'Ceuta is Spain', and 'Ceuta does not give up'. The demonstration also saw criticism of the Government's handling of the situation, with calls for the resignation of the Government Delegate in Ceuta, Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano.
