Berlin's Left, Greens, and SPD Agree to Expropriate Large Housing Corporations
In their exploratory talks for a possible joint government in Berlin, the Left, Greens, and SPD have agreed on the expropriation of housing corporations with more than 10,000 apartments. This move aims to tackle the city's housing crisis and prevent rents from rising further. Around 160,000 apartments are expected to be transferred to municipal ownership. The parties also agreed on a rent cap for municipally owned apartments and a very ambitious housing construction program. The expropriation law is planned to come into parliament by mid-2028.25 sourcesSee all sources
