Kazakh Businessman Timur Turlov Elected FIDE President
Timur Turlov, a Kazakh businessman, has been elected as the new president of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). He won the election on September 26, defeating two German candidates, Wadim Rosenstein and Jan Henric Buettner. Turlov, who is also the president of the Chess Federation of Kazakhstan and the CEO of Freedom Holding Corp., succeeds Arkady Dvorkovich, who stepped down due to EU sanctions. Turlov's election marks the first time in over 30 years that FIDE is not led by a Russian citizen.16 sourcesSee all sources
