Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Reveals Far Side of the Moon
The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) has provided a detailed view of the far side of the Moon, which is always hidden from Earth. A mosaic of over 15,000 images taken between 2009 and 2011 shows the lunar 'back side' with a resolution up to 100 meters per pixel. The far side appears more rugged and cratered compared to the Earth-facing side, due to its thicker crust preventing lava from reaching the surface.3 sourcesSee all sources
