AIVD Warns Against Confidential Conversations in Cars

The Dutch General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) has warned citizens that confidential conversations within and around modern vehicles can be intercepted via remotely activated microphones. According to the agency, intelligence agencies from other countries can request data from car manufacturers or access it through direct system access. To protect themselves, AIVD recommends avoiding the use of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and wireless charging, using USB adapters with data blocking, and not driving vehicles with external cameras near restricted areas.

Xbox Services Disrupted in Russia as Providers Block DNS

Xbox users in Russia are facing widespread connectivity issues due to internet service providers blocking DNS services that allowed the consoles to bypass regional restrictions. This has resulted in users being unable to access Xbox Live, download games, or play multiplayer. The blocking of addresses on port 53, through which Xbox usually sends DNS requests, is causing the consoles to struggle with understanding where to connect. While regular internet and games may still work, console owners are massively complaining about access problems.

Dominican Republic Repeals Tariff on US Rice Imports

The Dominican Republic has repealed a decree that established a special tariff regime for rice imports, including a preferential quota for rice from the United States. The move follows requests from U.S. commercial authorities who argued that the provisions affected access for U.S. rice as provided for in the Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA). The repeal has sparked concerns among Dominican rice producers who fear increased competition and potential pressure on domestic prices. The government has pledged to support the rice sector and explore better conditions for future negotiations.
