OpenAI has made a significant breakthrough in mathematics by solving the Navier-Stokes problem, one of the seven Millennium Prize Problems. The company's new AI model, significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra, produced a proof for the existence and smoothness of the Navier-Stokes equations in just 88 hours. The proof, produced by a group of 10,000 agents, was verified using GPT-6 Astra and published in the Lean language. The Navier-Stokes equations describe the motion of fluids and gases, and the problem asked whether these equations break down completely in certain situations. OpenAI's proof claims to have identified such a situation, something that no one could do for over 200 years.
