Protests Turn Violent Against 11,200-MW Dam Project in Arunachal Pradesh
Protests against the proposed 11,200-MW Siang Upper Multipurpose Project in Arunachal Pradesh turned violent on October 23, 2026. An NHPC office, a police station, and vehicles were set ablaze, and the residences of BJP State president Kaling Moyong and MLA Ninong Ering were attacked in East Siang district. The shutdown was jointly called by several local organizations, including the Adi Bane Kebang United and the Siang Indigenous Farmers' Forum Youth Wing. The project has faced opposition due to concerns over its potential impact on the Siang river basin and indigenous communities.2 sourcesSee all sources
