Metal Detectorist Uncovers Massive Viking Age Silver Hoard in Finland

A Finnish metal detectorist, Kalle Lappinen, discovered a substantial Viking Age silver hoard containing over 4,000 coins near Sysmä, northeast of Helsinki. The hoard, weighing approximately 10 pounds, consists of coins from present-day Sweden, Britain, Germany, Turkey, and Iran, dating back to between 1000 and 1050 A.D. Elephants Use Medicinal Plants for Self-Medication

African elephants have been observed using dozens of medicinal plants to treat themselves and their families, particularly their young, when they are sick. Local experts in the Mount Elgon region of Kenya have witnessed mothers selecting specific plants, mixing them with milk, and administering them to their offspring. Researchers have identified at least 35 plant species used by elephants, 25 of which are also known for their medicinal properties among local people.
